Fast & Fresh in the Kitchen

While cooking at home can be rewarding and is often the healthiest option you have, busy schedules can leave us reaching for takeout or food that’s convenient but may not be as nutritious. Having a few simple tips and tricks up your sleeve can help you create delicious home-cooked meals that are both fast and fresh. Here are some of my top 5 tips to get you started:

  1. Plan your meals in advance: Meal planning is key to making quick and fresh meals at home. Take some time on the weekends or at the beginning of the week to plan out your meals from your favourite cookbook or trusted go-to recipes and make a grocery list. This will help you avoid the last-minute scramble to find something to eat and when you grocery shop you’re more likely to only grab what you need, saving you a little extra cash too. (it’s Number 1 for a reason!)
  2. Keep your kitchen stocked with essentials: Having staple ingredients on hand, such as herbs, spices, oils, vinegars, and flour, can help you quickly throw together a meal with simple proteins like eggs, without having to run to the store.
  3. Make use of your freezer: Cook meals in bulk and freeze the leftovers for quick and easy meals later. You can also freeze fruits and vegetables that might be at the end of their lifespan for future use in smoothies or soups.
  4. Invest in good-quality kitchen equipment: A good set of pots and pans, a sharp knife, (and a Thermomix!)  can save you time and effort in the kitchen. Buy the best you can afford, but don’t break the bank. You can make an amazing meal with just a knife and a bowl.
  5. Stick with simple and fresh ingredients: Fresh ingredients like herbs, spices, and veggies pack a big punch in terms of flavour. Using simple ingredients can help you create a delicious and nutritious meal in a matter of minutes.
