Homemade Coffee Scrub

Date

Summer is coming. I can feel it in the warmer days, the sun letting us know she’s well and truly closer by beaming her UV down on us. If you’re like me, you may have hibernated a little over winter. I have to admit that while I love warm and sandy days on the beach, I prefer being rugged up with comfort food. But nevertheless, winter has well and truly ended and it’s time to dust off my swimmers and peel off that extra layer of skin I’ve accumulated over the colder months.

My favourite way to refresh my body is the same as how I wake in the morning. With coffee. Coffee scrubs are easy to make, convenient and quick to whip up. I know I always have some kind of coffee at home to fuel my habit so a coffee scrub to clear off excess skin to make me feel all fresh and clean is always welcome.

I often buy cheap whole beans on special, without the intention of drinking them {sorry, a bit of a coffee snob here}. I’ll store them in my freezer till I’m ready to use them before grinding them with an assortment of ingredients from my pantry and lathering them over my skin. I find that ground coffee and sugar are perfect together for scrubbing away dead skin cells so I’ll pair it with different oils and scents for nourishment.

You can use most basic things in your scrub. For this one, I added some orange peels but you could use any citrus you like. Other things you could add include:

  • Vanilla Beans
  • Cardamom Pods
  • Cinnamon Quills
  • Star Anise
  • Drops of your favourite Essential Oils like:
    • Lavender
    • Geranium
    • Jojoba
    • Orange
    • Peppermint

The possibilities of what you could add are really up to you!

How to Make your own Thermomix Coffee Scrub:

To make the scrub I use a quantity of Coffee 1:0.5 Brown Sugar, some peels then process till combined before adding a carrier oil, like Coconut or Sweet Almond Oil.

Ingredients go in your Thermomix {or high power blender} Bowl

Process your ingredients together until all broken down and a sandy consistency has been reached.

Blend together for approx 30 Seconds on a High Speed

I’ll add the oil, bit by bit. Only until the mixture is just wet but not runny.

After adding your Oil

Store your Scrub in an airtight container or glass jar. You can keep it in the fridge for several weeks and transfer some to a smaller container to keep in your shower, to use as needed.

Scrubbing it in circles on your skin can promote blood flow, break down old cells and will help rid the surface layer of excess dead skin cells.

If you make it using different scents and oils, share what works for you!
